The history of the African people and their descendants contain some of the greatest stories ever told. These are stories of heroes, kingdoms, proverbs, and psalms that have been passed down generation after generation, and written in the hearts and minds of our ancestors. These stories, passed down by oral traditions through the millennia, have given us our identity, traditions, inspirations, ethics, culture, and heritage.

Our oral tradition matters tremendously; unfortunately, it is being seriously threatened by outside writers and historians. There is a real danger that these stories will be lost. Therefore, we have taken our oral history and have inscribed it in stone, placing it along side other literature as a living testament for future generations. They need to know where we, as Africans, have come from, what we have been through, the changes that have occurred, and the struggles that have brought us to the present time.

We cannot escape our history; it is part of us. It is essential to acknowledge and remember the people who made sacrifices, whether small or great, for the good of the world. Above all, children need to hear these stories. This is why our series of children’s books called As I See Me will educate our children to build a greater tomorrow from the legacies left behind by our forefathers. These stories will not be lost. They will live forever in these books and in the minds of the children who read them and the adults who share them.
